The road at dawn
We recently moved to an area where we are surrounded by nature; allowing us to watch the transformations that continually happen in nature maybe a little bit more closely than we did in the city. I have always needed time in nature- to clear my head and center me. Being among trees has always given me a calm. I used to sit in a big cottonwood behind our house and read, and my brother and I used to have picnics under another one in the field behind our house in Kansas. Trees in Kansas are like jewels. They give shade from the sun and protection from the constant winds, shelter the birds in storms.
I have much needed space and time to observe and learn about the constant miracles that happen in nature out here over the river from St. Louis. I am able to observe this day, this minute- the constellation of clouds, light, color and air uniquely arranged just for this moment in time. The fluttering of a butterfly, the breeze on my face, or the heat of the sun are all new today. They may carry remnants of memory, but today, they are able to usher in newness, life and beauty if we let them. Life is right here, right now, for all of us. None of us know how much time we have left on this earth, but right now we have an opportunity to see things in a new light; create, connect, and love in a better way. A chance to seek out more intentionally the path God has for our lives.
I hope today you can get outside and see the wonder around you and receive it as it was meant- as a gift to you, because you are worthy of such a gift and loved beyond measure.
Awaken to the mystery of being here and enter the quiet immensity of your own presence. Have joy and peace in the temple of your senses. Receive encouragement when new frontiers beckon. Respond to the call of your gift and the courage to follow its path. Let the flame of anger free you of all falsity. May warmth of heart keep your presence aflame.
May anxiety never linger about you.
May your outer dignity mirror an inner dignity of soul. Take time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek no attention. Be consoled in the secret symmetry of your soul. May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven around the heart of wonder. - John O'Donohue
