Have you ever passed by something that caught your eye and stopped you in your tracks because it spoke to you? And then the pragmatic side of you talked yourself out of it because it was not something you needed/could be spent on something more practical/wasn't what you came for/was frivolous/etc. etc. etc.?
Well I'm telling you that sometimes, you need to ignore that voice and let your heart have what it wants. And this is where the red geraniums come in. When we moved here in 2007, my friend Beth took me to her favorite nursery, and as we passed by a lush row of hanging ivy geraniums, I could not stop staring. They were absolutely gorgeous- the color, the line of how the flowers tumbled down over the basket, the contrast of the heaps of red against the bright green leaves. I kept rounding back to these baskets, just looking. As we were leaving, and I had a single pot of geraniums, my friend asked me why I wasn't buying the hanging basket. I said it was too expensive and she looked at me and said, you know, I really think that basket of geraniums makes your heart happy. Maybe it's worth it. ? Well I bought it. And hung it on my front porch. It thrived all summer long and my friend was so right. It made me happy every time I looked at it. So happy, in fact, I painted it. See ithere. When school started it was the perfect backdrop for my kids school pictures. And I have bought one every year since then. For me, because it makes my heart happy.. Sometimes you need a friend to remind you of these things. Maybe I can be that friend to you today.
